"The worst things you can do at the baby shower"

My friend recently told me about this horrible baby shower for this girl at work. I was telling my daughter about it and I said "that's it I didn't have a whole chapter in my book about what not to do to pregnant women, what the worst kind of things you can do with the baby shower.

At this work shower they they had nothing for the pregnant woman to drink. They'd gone out they bought all this alcohol they didn't have a freaking sparkling water or nothing for the pregnant woman and that's just the start!

They didn't have food she could eat they had old deli sandwiches and she doesn't eat the deli meat I mean it was just like bad bad bad bad bad bad and it makes people's lives harder than they need to be this expectation and that's what we do because it's what is "fun". It doesn't take much to see that all those people bought all of that stuff for themselves, they didn't buy it to make her life easier.

They bought the gifts they did for the "look at what I've got, isn't this cute." They didn't make her life easier. They went out and got thousands of diapers and thousands thinking oh now they won't have to buy a diaper for a year. Hmm well I hope her baby's not allergic to those particular diapers or she doesn't like the smell of those diapers or they don't fit her baby properly.

They took all this money and instead of really thinking about what she would need, what would really help her. They had a huge amount of money to spend.

What you need is your big ticket items, your car seat your stroller these are big ticket items they can be a little bit harder for people to find that money. It's easy to go buy a pack of diapers. Here's this woman you know, she's got all this crap laying around it's just money down the toilet.

I would have just like give her that 500 let her buy a good car seat that's gonna last her, let her buy her good stroller.

A gift idea I really like is an exercise ball. Great  to sit on with the baby and for the pregnant mother to sit on the ball for getting the baby in the right optimal fetal position so they're great for the pregnancy and they're great for after you have the baby. The dad can sit on it and bounce the baby you know, they actually work better than rocking chairs because it's the same motion that the baby feels in the womb, if you picture a pregnant woman walking up a flight of stairs that baby is it's that same motion on the ball.

I love a Moses basket, I love a Moses basket!  You could take it to your mother's house when you go there and the baby has its own bed you can go to the beach and take your Moses basket you can put a sheepskin in it.

I love sheepskins for babies too because it keeps them cozy in the winter but also in a climate like Mexico or in the hot summer it creates airflow through the fur because they're not flat on it.

And more things for mothers like nursing tank tops are so practical and oftentimes mothers don't want to spend that money on themselves once they have a baby.

Meals are another great one. things like that not so much the outfits although when babies are very small and new at home gowns are great so that you in the night when you're changing their bum you don't have to do the snap snap with the sleepers. A gown makes it quick and easy, also those  little bags you can put them in, things like that.

So what I'm talking about is things to make their lives easier things that they used every day.
